Kia Sonet DCT vs iMT: which one should you go for?

September 23, 2022

Kia Sonet front quarter

We test drove a few automatic compact SUVs priced within Rs 14 lakh (on-road, Hyderabad) and decided to go for the Kia Sonet. We booked it three weeks ago, but the waiting period for the iMT is three to four months, while it is over eight months for the DCT. We really love the DCT, but the waiting period is frustrating. Should I go for the iMT or wait for the DCT?

Lastly, I also liked the Honda Amaze CVT top model at Rs 11.3 lakh, which can be delivered in one month. Should I go for that?

Vamsi, Hyderabad

Autocar India says: Between the iMT and DCT Sonet, the DCT is much better, as it’s a proper automatic driven by a sophisticated DCT gearbox. The iMT is a halfway house as you still have to shift gears manually – though without a clutch pedal – and some find the experience a bit odd. We feel the DCT is worth the wait, but if you can’t, then the Amaze CVT is not a bad choice. The engine performance isn’t as exciting as the Sonet’s turbo-petrol, but the Honda 1.2 does the job for everyday driving.
