BMW M8 Competition-based Speedtop shooting brake concept shown
May 27, 2025

BMW presented its Speedtop shooting brake concept, which is based on the M8 Competition, at the annual Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event in Italy. Officially called the Concept Speedtop, it’s closely related to the BMW Concept Skytop revealed in 2024. The luxury carmaker stated that 70 units of the Speedtop’s production model will be made this year, with each unit estimated to cost as much as 430,000 pounds (approximately Rs 4.96 crore at the time of writing).
- The BMW Concept Speedtop can seat only two people
- It features an illuminated kidney grille, bespoke wheels and frameless doors
- Powertrain details haven’t been fully disclosed, but it would have BMW’s most powerful V8
- The production version of the Speedtop concept is unlikely to launch in India
BMW Concept Speedtop exterior design
A central spine runs from the bonnet to the rear roof spoiler
The Speedtop’s front fascia mirrors the Skytop prototype’s, featuring an arrow-shaped long bonnet, shark nose design and an illuminated kidney grille. Slim LED headlights flank the nose, and under them are vertically stacked air vents. A prominent central spine runs from its bonnet to the rear spoiler, giving it a “touring profile”.
In profile, bespoke dual-tone 14-spoke wheels and frameless doors mark their presence. The doors are devoid of traditional handles and instead have small winglets on the upper edges, making for a clean side look. The sloping roofline blends cleanly with the prominent rear spoiler, below which is a raked glass windshield. The rear gets slim LED tail-lights that are not connected, a parking camera and twin exhausts.
BMW Concept Speedtop interior and features
M8 Competition-like digital screens for information and instrumentation
The Concept Speedtop’s interior has brown and white leather upholstery, and the gear selector has a crystal design, which extends to the inserts on the steering wheel and the bucket seat headrests. The digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment system look similar to those in the M8 Competition. Interestingly, the roofliner has a light beam in the centre, which mirrors the roof’s exterior spine.
It is strictly a 2-seater with storage areas for small bags behind the seats. BMW will also offer tailored bags matching the dual-tone upholstery; these can be stored behind the seats. BMW has also used leather upholstery for the boot, which has a thin LED strip for a wrap-around lighting effect.
BMW Concept Speedtop powertrain
May borrow M8’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol mill
Without revealing all the powertrain details, BMW stated that the concept has the brand’s “most powerful V8 engine currently offered”. So, it could pack the M8 Competition’s 625hp 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol mill, which also powers the Concept Skytop roadster.
