MG Windsor Pro to get 52.9kWh battery; launch tomorrow

May 6, 2025

MG Windsor Pro teaser launch on May 6

The upcoming MG Windsor Pro, which is due for a launch tomorrow, has been confirmed with a new 52.9kWh battery pack. The Windsor Pro will sit above the current Windsor on sale, and new battery aside, it will also get new features and some cosmetic exterior and interior updates.

  1. New 52.9kWh battery pack to power the Windsor Pro
  2. It will also have V2L and V2V capabilities along with ADAS suite
  3. Expect a reasonable bump in price as well

MG Windsor Pro battery, range

Larger battery pack with more range, though same 136hp motor

The Windsor currently sold in India comes with a 38kWh battery pack, and the larger 52.9kWh battery should considerably improve range. For reference, the existing 38kWh battery on the Windsor returns a range of 332km (ARAI-rated). However, the power and torque figures of 136hp and 200Nm will remain unchanged with the larger battery, as will the front-wheel-drive configuration.

New battery could bring a notable update to real-world range

In our real-world efficiency tests, the Windsor fared really well, returning an efficiency of 8.1km/kWh and a range of 308km – just 24km off the claimed figure. For reference, the Nexon EV with a larger 45kWh battery returned a real-world range of 350km but with a lower efficiency of 7.79km/kWh. The larger battery could take the Windsor’s range closer to 400km, probably making it viable even for trips outside the city. Our real world charging tests also found that spending 35 minutes on a DC fast charger can net the Windsor 38kWh up to 232km of range.

MG Windsor Pro: features, exterior and interior changes

Among the other upgrades, the Windsor Pro will also come with an ADAS suite and new vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities. It will also receive a new set of alloy wheels and new dual-tone black and beige leatherette upholstery as opposed to the all-black upholstery seen on the existing Windsor.

MG Windsor sales in India

It is currently outselling the Nexon EV

Since its launch in September 2024, the Windsor alone has given significant boost to MG’s sales in India. In the seven months between September 2024 and March 2025, the Windsor sold 19,394 units, averaging more than 2,700 units a month. More importantly, it has consistently been outselling its chief rival, the Tata Nexon EV, which had long been the undisputed bestseller in the EV segment. The addition of the larger battery surely will give a further impetus to its sales. But expect a reasonable bump in its ex-showroom price, which currently ranges between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 16 lakh.
