Most affordable SUVs with a factory-fitted CNG kit
May 14, 2025

Rising fuel prices, coupled with the government’s push for eco-friendly transport and its clear discouragement of diesel, have significantly boosted demand for CNG cars in India. In response, mass-market carmakers like Maruti, Tata, Hyundai and Toyota have expanded their CNG portfolios, especially in the SUV segment. Unlike earlier, when CNG kits were limited to bare-bones base variants, many brands now offer them across multiple trims, making feature-rich CNG SUVs more accessible. Keep reading to discover the most affordable CNG SUV models with a factory-fitted kit in India.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

The Maruti Grand Vitara’s mid-spec trims, including Delta and Zeta, come with the CNG option. The Grand Vitara CNG has a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission (MT), generating 88hp and 121.5Nm and returning a mileage of 26.6km/kg. The Maruti SUV has a 55-litre (water equivalent) CNG tank. It should be noted that Maruti is not accepting bookings for the Grand Vitara CNG as of now, and its updated model is expected to arrive by late June.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder
Rs 13.81 lakh to Rs 15.84 lakh

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the rebadged version of the Grand Vitara, offers CNG options in the mid-spec E and G variants. The Hyryder CNG shares its 88hp 1.5-litre engine with the Grand Vitara, delivering the same claimed mileage of 26.6km/kg. Notably, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara are the only midsize SUVs to come with a factory-fitted CNG kit at the moment.

The compact SUV packs an 88hp 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine (that also powers the Grand Vitara CNG and Hyryder CNG), paired with a 5-speed MT. Maruti Brezza CNG is fitted with a 55-litre tank, and it has an ARAI mileage of 25.51km/kg.

Tata Nexon
Rs 9 lakh to Rs 13.70 lakh
The Tata Nexon is the only car here with four power sources: petrol, diesel, electric and CNG. It’s also the industry’s first turbocharged CNG compact SUV. The Brezza rival uses Tata Motors’ twin-cylinder tech, offering more boot space than a single large tank despite a 60-litre capacity. Nexon CNG comes in Smart, Smart+, Smart+ S, Pure+, Pure+ S, Creative and Creative+ S trims. It’s also available in the blacked-out Dark Knight edition in Creative+ S, Creative+ and Fearless+ trims, with the last two featuring a panoramic sunroof, a feature no other CNG car on this list offers. Its 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine with 6MT makes 100hp and 170Nm and delivers 24km/kg ARAI mileage. Unlike other CNG cars that rely on petrol for ignition, this Tata SUV can be started directly in CNG mode, conserving fuel at start-up.

However, the Toyota SUV’s CNG variant is pricier by Rs 23,000 compared to the equivalent trim of its Maruti counterpart. The Taisor CNG is run by a 77.5hp, 98.5Nm 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has a 28.51km/kg mileage (claimed by the brand) and a 55-litre CNG tank.

The Fronx CNG comes with the 1.2-litre CNG-run power plant and boasts the same 28.51km/kg mileage figure.
