2025 Formula E: Mahindra on podium at Monaco E-Prix

Mahindra Racing returned to the Formula E podium after over two years, with Nyck de Vries finishing second in the Monaco E-Prix. A strong points haul at the Monaco double header propels the Indian team to third place overall in the teams’ championship.

De Vries scores podium finish for Mahindra Racing

Speaking to Autocar India at the Jeddah E-Prix earlier this year, Mahindra Racing team principal Frederic Bertrand had highlighted a number of key changes made at the team. This year, Mahindra has bounced back to being a regular points scorer and the Monaco E-Prix saw the team take another step forward.

Starting from fourth on the grid, de Vries quickly moved up to third after a strong start in the first race. He remained in podium contention throughout and at one point had even assumed the lead after passing Andretti’s Nico Mueller on Lap 26. He managed his Attack Mode activations, the fast charging Pit Boost stop and two full-course yellow interruptions to hold on to second place and hand Mahindra its first podium finish since the 2023 Mexico City E-Prix.

De Vries followed that up with another strong showing in the second race. Starting from second on the grid, he was once again part of the podium fight. He eventually had to settle for P5 after being passed by Jaguar’s Nick Cassidy and Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa in the closing laps.

In the second Mahindra car, Edoardo Mortara also scored some valuable points. Despite running with minor front wing damage in the first race, he managed his energy and utilised the Pit Boost window to overcut several of his rivals. He then passed Mueller on the run to the chequered flag to finish fourth.

Race 2 was a tougher affair for Mortara. He had to start from P21 after brushing the wall on his final effort in qualifying. He picked his way through the chaos to finish P12 in the race.

Monaco E-Prix: Nissan, Envision win races

Nissan’s Oliver Rowland pulled off another strategic masterclass to win the first race. He timed his Attack Mode usage just right and took full advantage of the power boost to slice past both Andretti drivers and de Vries en route to victory. Andretti’s Jake Dennis completed the podium.

In the second race, Envision’s Sebastian Buemi took a surprise win (his first in nearly six years) in damp conditions. The Swiss driver took advantage of Rowland and Jean Eric Vergne messy battle for the race lead. He then used Attack Mode to pass de Vries for the lead and pulled away out at front. Rowland recovered to finish second, followed by Cassidy.

2025 Formula E championship standings

Having won three out of seven races so far this season, Rowland leads the championship by 48 points from da Costa. Pascal Wehrlein is third overall, just one point behind his Porsche teammate da Costa. Mahindra’s de Vries and and Mortara stand P5 and P8 overall.

Over in the teams’ championship, Porsche currently leads the way, albeit just seven points ahead of Nissan. Mahindra’s strong form in Monaco pushes the team up to third place overall, 42 points off the lead.
