MG Windsor vs Tata Nexon EV: Real world charging times tested
April 28, 2025

Our second batch of charging time tests, in partnership with Zeon Charging, saw the popular MG Windsor EV go up against its primary rivals, the Tata Nexon EV MR, Nexon EV LR and the Mahindra XUV400. Without further ado, here’s how quickly their respective batteries charge on a DC fast charger and how many kilometres of range does that translate to.
Tata Nexon EV MR
Rs 12.49 lakh-14.79 lakh
The Tata Nexon EV Medium Range version charges at an average speed of 21kW. A noticeable decline is seen beyond 88 percent SoC, continuing until the battery is fully charged.

The Tata Nexon EV 45, which shares its battery with the Curvv EV 45, reaches peak charging speeds of 60kW. It has a stepped decline but still charges from 20-80 percent in under 30 minutes. Considering the Nexon EV 45 recorded an average efficiency figure of 7.79kW/km, one can expect about 226km of range after spending 29 minutes with a DC fast charger.

The Windsor charges at 1.2C with a consistent charging curve and a significant taper after 70 percent SoC. A 20-80 percent charge time of 35 minutes is quite impressive. Our real-world Windsor range test saw the EV deliver an economy of 8.1kWh/km, which means that 35 minutes of charging would convert to about 232km.

The Mahindra XUV400 shows a lot of variation in charging speed up to 78 percent SoC, after which the rate drops sharply to 24kW and lower. In our real world tests, the XUV400 managed an efficiency figure of 6.45kW/km, which extrapolates to about 211km of range added in 37 minutes of DC fact charging.
