The Mercedes GLB SUV is no longer available for sale in India, the German brand has confirmed. Mercedes’ entry-level 7-seat SUV was brought in as a CBU from its plant in Mexico, and allocations for the Indian market have been completed, with every model brought to the country now sold.

Mercedes GLB in India

Mercedes GLB price range was Rs 63.80 lakh-69.80 lakh

Launched in December 2022, the GLB had been on sale in the country for a little over 2 years. While it wasn’t a particularly hot seller, the German company was bullish on its sales, and the SUV was the most affordable 7-seat luxury SUV available in the market at the time. Priced between Rs 63.80 lakh and 69.80 lakh at launch, the Mercedes GLB undercut the likes of the Land Rover Discovery Sport by a margin of Rs 1.6 to 7.6 lakh.

Was available in petrol and diesel variants

Mercedes’ entry-level 7-seat SUV was available in GLB 200 Progressive, 220d 4Matic and 220d AMG Line 4Matic variants. The 200 Progressive had a 163hp, 250Nm, 1.3-litre, turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sending power to the front wheels only. Meanwhile, the GLB 220d variants came with a 190hp, 400Nm, 2.0-litre diesel unit paired with an 8-speed automatic that sent power to all four wheels.

It should be noted that the Mercedes EQB – the all-electric entry-level 7-seat SUV that was also launched in December 2022 – continues to be on sale. The facelift for the EV came to India in July last year in EQB 250+ and 350 variants, which are now priced at Rs 72.20 lakh and Rs 78.90 lakh, respectively.

Mercedes GLB facelift revealed in 2023

Minor design changes, interior and feature updates and mild-hybrid engines

Mercedes gave the GLB a mid-cycle refresh in March 2023, which brought in new bumpers and a revised front grille design, among other updates to keep it fresh both outside and inside the cabin. The features list also expanded, but the biggest change was the addition of 48V mild-hybrid petrol and diesel powertrains. However, the GLB facelift has not yet made its way to India.

While Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that a new GLB is on the cards for India, it is unclear if the German brand means the facelift or the new-gen model that is currently under development. Spy shots of the second-gen GLB on test have surfaced online, with a reveal expected in 2026. It is based on the same MMA platform as the India-bound third-gen CLA, which is expected to launch here by the end of this year.

All prices, ex-showroom, India.
