Honda Activa e, QC1 sales off to a slow start

Honda has sold 2,662 units of its Activa e: and QC1 electric scooters in two months. Honda recently entered the EV market and since then it has manufactured over 6,400 Activa e: and QC1 electric scooters between February and March 2025, and sold 2,662 units. While the more expensive Activa e: has so far only been available in Bengaluru, bookings have now opened in Mumbai and Delhi as well. Meanwhile, the more affordable QC1 has been introduced in six cities till date– Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Delhi and Chandigarh

According to SIAM data, Honda has unsold inventory of 3,770 units

As per FY2025 wholesales numbers released by SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers), HMSI produced a total of 6,432 units of the Activa e and QC1 – 1,862 units in February 2025 and a higher 4,570 units in March 2024. While the company dispatched 560 units in February 2025, March 2025 dispatches to HMSI dealers were 2,102 units.

The e-scooters are produced at HMSI’s Narasapura plant in Karnataka. While the Honda Activa e comes with swappable batteries, the QC1 is equipped with a fixed battery.

There are over 80 Honda Power Pack e: battery-swapping stations in Bengaluru, which was the first market where the Activa e: was launched, and they are being introduced in Delhi and Mumbai where bookings have opened. 

Honda plans to have over 250 stations in Bengaluru by 2026, with swapping points located within every 5km in the city. Customers will have to pay per swap, and Honda will only sell the Activa e: with a ‘Battery-as-a-Service’ option.

The QC1, is now available in six cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Chandigarh.

While the sales figures may not appear remarkable at first glance, it’s important to note that the more expensive Activa e: has so far been available only in Bengaluru, as Honda’s swappable battery infrastructure is still in its setup phase. The company is gradually expanding this network to other major cities across India. Given that sales for both the Activa e: and QC1 have been limited to a few states, the 2,662 units sold are not entirely underwhelming. That said, it will take time for Honda’s electric scooter lineup to gain traction and establish a solid presence in the broader market— especially when factoring in the current limitations of both products.

It may be noted that the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak, both of which were launched in January 2020, were first introduced only in a few select markets and sales in the first couple of years were tepid. It’s early days yet for the two Honda electric scooters and the market response to the Activa e: and QC1 remains to be seen.
