Toyota Innova Hycross or BYD eMax 7: buy a hybrid or electric MPV?

I’m frequently chauffeured to Mumbai and Ahmedabad from Surat, in our Toyota Innova Crysta. The car is now 5-years old and has clocked around 2 lakh km, hence I’m looking for a replacement with low running costs. I’ve shortlisted the Maruti Invicto hybrid Zeta Plus, Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid VX and the BYD eMax 7 electric Premium.

Autocar India says: Being an EV, the BYD will be extremely economical, if you will charge the vehicle at your home or office, much more than the hybrid twins. However, you’ll be seated in a knees-up position at the rear, which might not be very comfortable for long drives. The Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto offer a comfier backseat experience compared to the BYD, and thanks to their hybrid powertrain, they’ll be very fuel efficient too. Between the two, pick the brand you’re comfortable with and choose the one that gives you the better deal – you won’t go wrong with either.
