MG Comet vs Tata Tiago EV vs Citroen eC3 real world range compared

The MG Comet, Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3 are some of the most affordable electric cars currently available in India. While all three EVs are mostly intended for city use and the convenience of home charging, range still remains a crucial consideration for EV buyers. So, we put these three hatchbacks to the test to ascertain which one yields the highest real-world range.

The eC3 has the largest battery pack at 29.2kWh, followed by the Tiago EV’s 24kWh unit and the Comet’s 17.3kWh pack. Torque figures follow a similar hierarchy, but the Tiago EV is the most powerful – 74hp – followed by the eC3 at 57hp and the Comet with 42hp.

However, the eC3 is also the heaviest here at 1,316kg, which does impact range. The Tiago EV is 166kg lighter than the eC3, while the Comet is around 500kg lighter than the Citroen hatchback, giving it a significant advantage in terms of efficiency.

Unsuprisingly, due to its large battery, the eC3 went the furthest in our real-world tests – 228km; 92km less than its ARAI-claimed range of 320km. Despite having the smallest battery pack of the lot, the Comet managed to eke out 6km more range than the Tiago EV, with the latter coming in third place at 187km. The Tata hatchback falls 128km short of its ARAI-claimed figure, while the Comet is less by just 37km.

Comet EV is the lightest and hence, most efficient

With an efficiency of 11.17km/kWh, the Comet makes the most out of its 17.3kWh battery pack. The eC3 comes in at 7.8km/kWh, while the Tiago EV follows closely at 7.77km/kWh.

The Citroen eC3 line-up starts at Rs 12.69 lakh and tops off at Rs 13.49 lakh, whereas prices for the Tata Tiago EV start at Rs 7.99 lakh and extend up to Rs 11.14 lakh. The Comet bags the affordability crown thanks to its Rs 6.99 lakh-9.83 lakh price range, and buyers can additionally shave off at least Rs 2 lakh by opting for MG’s battery-as-a-service program.
