- Scrambler 400 X with cross spoke wheels spotted
- Speed 400 based cafe racer seems production ready
- Cafe racer draws design inspiration from the Speed Triple 1200 RR
Triumph Scrambler 400X and Cafe racer spotted: What can be seen?
The Scrambler 400 X was launched back in 2023. This time it has again been spotted but now the test mule features cross-spoke wheels. Cross spoke wheels bring in the best of both worlds, flex of a regular spoke wheel while also making the tyre tubeless. It essentially lends this scrambler additional capability. Another visual addition is the presence of a beak upfront.
We expect the cross-spoke to be part of an additional accessory set and the bike will continue to be shipped with alloy wheels from the factory. Existing customers should also be able to purchase the cross-spoke wheels. When this accessory goes on sale, the Scrambler 400 X will be the second motorcycle in this segment in India after the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 to offer this option.
The Bajaj-Triumph partnership has given us three bikes – The most affordable being the Speed T4, which is heavily based on the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X. All three motorcycles share the same engine but the Speed T4 incorporates a different state of tune. The Speed 400 based cafe racer is slated to be the fourth bike which has been spotted alongside the Scrambler 400 X
We had reported a few weeks earlier that this cafe racer’s prototype has been spotted testing, but this time, It looks near production ready. It draws its design inspiration from the Speed Triple 1200 RR. It remains to be seen what nomenclature Triumph adopts for this cafe racer. As it has already bid-adieu to the ‘Thruxton’ moniker with the Thruxton Final Edition.
It will also borrow a lot of cycle parts from the Speed 400. Distinguishing this cafe racer will be a set of clip-on handlebars, bar end mirrors, a single-piece seat and a sculpted fuel tank. Where it differs from the Speed 400 is that this bike uses a different tail section, with a simpler rectangular tail-lamp and grab rail. The rider’s triangle seems committed with the top half requiring additional lean to reach the clip-ons but the bottom half remains comparatively relaxed.
It is imperative that this Speed 400 based cafe racer will use the same 398cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder motor. It should continue to produce the same 40hp and 37.5Nm of torque.
We expect the Speed 400 based cafe racer to go on sale some time this year. In terms of pricing, It should slot right in between the Speed 400 (Rs 2.40 lakh) and Scrambler 400 X (Rs 2.65 lakh).
