Hyundai’s next big launch for India, the Creta EV, will make its global debut here early next year. The midsize EV SUV will be rival the Curvv EV, the Maruti eVX SUV, MG ZS EV and the BYD Atto 3. The carmaker has been testing the EV for over a year and these fresh spy shots give us a look at the interior of the SUV.

  1. Creta EV to borrow steering wheel from global-spec Kona EV
  2. Gets a unique centre console, shares bits with Alcazar
  3. To get 45kWh battery pack and 138hp motor

As seen in previous spy shots, the Creta EV will come with an all-new three-spoke steering wheel similar to the Kona EV sold overseas. In addition, we can see that the drive selector lever has moved to the steering wheel column from the centre console, which is again similar to the Kona EV. The redesigned centre console now gets two cup holders, an electronic parking brake button, buttons for cooled seats, auto hold and 360-degree camera.

These new spy shots also confirm that the centre panel for HVAC controls will be borrowed from the Alcazar facelift, and it’s not the same as the one on the ICE-powered Creta. The Creta EV retains the twin-screen setup for the infotainment and instrument cluster, along with a bunch of physical controls for easy accessibility. The infotainment could get more features and an updated software interface.

On the outside, the electric SUV will be largely similar to the recently facelifted Creta, but it will get a few EV-specific touches like a closed-off ‘grille’, all-new front and rear bumpers, and new aero-optimised alloy wheels as seen earlier.

Hyundai Creta EV range, battery

The Creta EV will get a 45kWh battery pack, which, while less than the MG ZS EV (50.3kWh) and the upcoming Maruti eVX (48-60kWh), is on par with the entry-level Curvv EV’s 45kWh battery. The Creta EV’s single, front-axle-mounted motor produces about 138hp and 255Nm, which is similar to the latest-gen Kona EV. It will be based on the ICE-powered Creta, albeit with certain modifications.

Production for the Creta EV will commence by December this year. Hyundai India is planning on producing around 24,000 units of the SUV every year.
