The Mahindra Thar Roxx has been launched in India, with prices starting at Rs 12.99 lakh and going up to Rs 20.49 lakh for the top-spec AX7L 4×2. The brand says that the prices for the 4×4 variants will be announced before October 2. The Thar Roxx is significantly larger on every metric: 443mm longer overall, 50mm wider, up to 79mm taller, and has a 400mm longer wheelbase. These increases should translate to more interior space in the Roxx 5-door, that accommodates five passengers.
Interestingly, the Roxx is expected to be as capable, if not more, when off-roading, as the 3-door. The 5-door maintains similar water wading depth, approach, and departure angles. However, the ramp-over angle has increased thanks to the longer wheelbase, which means there will be a lower likelihood of see-sawing on a rough patch.
Thar Roxx vs Thar 3-door: what else is different
Mahindra claims it has made the Roxx more convenient and practical, as it gets a 447-litre boot, rear AC vents and the side footstep height, which has been lowered by 41mm. Also, the 3-door’s hydraulic steering system has been replaced with an electronic one. As we reported earlier, top-spec variants get a large panoramic sunroof, while mid-spec trims have a single-pane sunroof. In addition, the Thar 3-door gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine along with a petrol 4×4 model, neither of which are available with the Thar Roxx.
