Renault Grand Koleos SUV revealed

Renault has showcased the all-new Grand Koleos SUV at the ongoing Busan Motor show 2024.  The Grand Koleos is a Tata Safari-sized SUV that’s powered by a dual motor petrol-hybrid powertrain, and packs in a new-age interior with a plethora of screens.

Renault Grand Koleos: what is it?

The all-new Grand Koleos SUV was internally known as Renault Aurora 1 project, one of two SUVs that will be built by the French brand in Korea. Not to be mistaken by any other mainstream Renault SUV sold globally, the Grand Koleos for Korea is a completely unique product that uses Chinese brand Geeley’s CMA platform, with Geeley group owning over a third of Renault Korea’s stake. 

Additionally, Geely Auto and Renault Group established HORSE Powertrain Limited, whose main business includes the design, development, production and sales of hybrid powertrain components and systems, including batteries. The Grand Koleos is the first of a handful of SUVs to be jointly developed by both brands. The CMA platform by Geeley also underpins the Volvo XC40 and several Lynk & Co vehicles, among others.

Renault Grand Koleos: exterior, interior, specs 

The Renault Grand Koleos is essentially a Korean-ised version of the Geely Xingyue L SUV which is sold in China. There are some cosmetic diffferneces, with the Renault getting a new borderless grille, different alloy wheel design and a few other unique design touches on the front and rear bumpers. A majority of the sheet metal parts is shared with the Xingyue L SUV, along with the platform.

On the inside, it gets three 12.3-inch screens, one for instrumentation, a central screen for infotainment and a third screen for the front passenger. It gets a panoramic sunroof, leather seats, wood and faux aluminum trim and the works. The infotainment system also gets 5G connectivity and OTA updates.

Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that’s coupled to a twin motor hybrid setup that churns out a total of 245hp of power. The SUV gets multiple drive and terrain modes as standard.

Renault Grand Koleos: will it come to India?

Renault did sell the Koleos in India until a few years ago. The Grand Koleos seen here will likely be a Korea-only model for now. For India, Renault will introduce the Duster and the Bigster SUVs starting next year. Renault’s existing line-up is also expected to get minor updates along with a top-spec sporty variant for the Kiger SUV.
