Toyota Fortuner
Waiting period: 1-2 months
Price: Rs 33.43 lakh-51.59 lakh
The Toyota Fortuner SUV is available with a choice of two engines: a 2.7-litre petrol that makes 166hp and 245Nm, and a 2.8-litre diesel that churns out 204hp and 500Nm. While both engines are available with automatic and manual transmission options, only the diesels come with a four-wheel-drive system. The Toyota Fortuner rivals the equally massive MG Gloster and Isuzu MU-X.
Toyota Hilux
Waiting period: 1 month
Price: Rs 30.4 lakh-38.05 lakh
The Hilux is a tried and tested pickup truck that Toyota has been selling globally for quite a while. It is powered by the same 2.8-litre diesel engine as the Fortuner, and gets a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. While the power output is the same with both gearboxes at 204hp, the torque figures vary: 420Nm with the manual and 500Nm with the automatic. At this price point, the Hilux is more expensive than its closest rival, the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross (Rs 19.5 lakh-27 lakh), and the upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N-based pickup will also rival it upon launch.
Toyota Camry
Waiting period: 1 month
Price: Rs 46.17 lakh-46.32 lakh
The 4.8 metre-long, hybrid Toyota Camry is an executive sedan that’s both comfortable and efficient. Powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine coupled with a 120hp permanent magnet synchronous motor, the Camry has a total output of 218hp and 221Nm. However, the all-important figure here is the fuel economy, which stands at a claimed 23.27kpl. The Camry has no direct rivals in the Indian market.
Toyota Vellfire
Waiting period: 10 months
Price: Rs 1.19 crore-1.29 crore
The new Toyota Vellfire was launched in India last year and the MPV has been popular, particularly amongst celebrities. The Vellfire gets a luxurious interior set up that includes an ottoman for the second-row, an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat and captain chairs with heating and ventilation, to name a few. The Vellfire is powered by a 193hp, 240Nm, 2.5-litre, four-cylinder hybrid powertrain mated to an e-CVT. Toyota claims the Vellfire will return an efficiency of 19.28kpl.
Toyota India
Earlier this month, the company paused and then resumed deliveries for vehicles equipped with diesel engines due to irregularities during the horsepower certification testing. The company has also reportedly axed plans to bring the Corolla Cross SUV to India as the project was not commercially viable.
