India-bound Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB officially revealed
October 22, 2023
Mercedes-Benz has finally revealed full details and specifications of the sixth-generation long-wheelbase E-Class sedan (codename V214). The new E-Class LWB will go on sale in China in the coming months and, as confirmed by Mercedes-Benz India, will come to our market in the second half of next year.
- New E-Class V124 is dimensionally bigger than its predecessor
- Gets optional Superscreen feature in China
- Power recline for rear seats standard in some variants
New Mercedes E-Class LWB to get more features and tech
Like the current-gen E-Class, India will get the LWB body style next year and it will look similar to the one that has been revealed in China. India is the only market for the E-Class globally where the car is sold in this configuration – right-hand-drive LWB. China and a few other markets get the LWB too, but with a left-hand-drive layout. The LWB E-Class does not get any performance versions but does get sporty AMG-line iterations.
The new E-Class has a longer wheelbase than the one we get in India currently. As far as dimensions go, it measures 5,092mm in length, 1,880mm in width, 1,493mm in height and has a 3,094mm-long wheelbase.
The current-gen E-Class was revealed in a standard wheelbase body style earlier this year. The LWB version was seen via leaked images in China a few months ago. The production E-Class LWB looks quite similar visually to the regular sedan. However, the rear door, like the outgoing E-Class LWB, is longer, and the rear quarter glass is positioned behind the rear door as opposed to being integrated into the rear door with the rear window.
The same interior setup seen on the standard E-Class will be shared with the LWB car. The model shown in China has multiple variants with varying feature lists that also include power reclining rear seats with an ottoman function. The “Superscreen” is available in some variants as standard. We understand that Mercedes-Benz India is still contemplating offering this feature in India given the high percentage of E-Class buyers being chauffeur-driven.
The Mercedes Supercreen setup gets three integrated screens positioned beneath a single glass panel on the dashboard. A 12.2-inch screen facing the driver is used for instrumentation and a 14.4-inch screen in the center is the main infotainment unit. There’s another third screen facing the front passenger as well.
As far as powertrain goes, China gets a six-cylinder petrol engine line-up which may not come to India. For us, we expect the current set of petrol and diesel engines to continue on the next-gen E-Class with some updates. Expect more details to be revealed as the India launch nears.
