Royal Enfield Recalls 26,300 New-Generation Classic 350 Motorcycles for Problem with the Rear Brakes

Royal Enfield is recalling 26,300 new-generation Classic 350 motorcycles in the Indian market. The voluntary recall is part of the safety concern for its customers and other road users. According to Royal Enfield, the new Classic 350 single-channel ABS features a rear drum brake model with a potential defect in the rear brakes. It is important to note that no crash, injury, damage or death has been reported pertaining to this recall. 

Affected Models

Royal Enfield engineers have isolated the problem to specific units manufactured between September 1, 2021, and December 5, 2021. The company also told that the defect is only with the single-channel ABS, rear drum brake Classic 350 models. The brand also reveals that no other model is affected by this recall. Royal Enfield also boasts that the brand employs rigorous testing and development protocols. These testing protocols adhere to global validation standards of quality and durability. Having said that issues such as these can arise under specific, extreme riding conditions.

The Recall

Royal Enfield’s team also discovered that a part called “Brake Reaction Bracket”, attached to the motorcycle swing arm may be defective. The said part is only used on the 2021 single-channel ABS with rear drum brake Classic 350 motorcycle. Royal Enfield reveals that the brake reaction bracket may get damaged under specific riding conditions. The brand claims that the Classic 350 motorcycle under exceptionally higher braking load could lead to unusual braking noise and potential deterioration of braking efficiency in extreme conditions.

The brand will proactively call in close to 26,300 units of the model as a precautionary measure. Customers with a single-channel ABS and rear-drum-brake enabled Classic 350 will get a reinforced brake reaction bracket of the swing arm for all units, as the remedy. Royal Enfield service teams and/or local dealerships will reach out to consumers in due time for the remedy.
